Jennifer Jordan grew up in the foothills of eastern Tennessee; her mother (a librarian) and her father (a physicist) were the inspiration for much of her free time, which included voraciously reading books and fun with liquid nitrogen. Although Jennifer entered college as a pre-med student, it was one class and one professor who permanently altered her course of study into a fevered journey through literature and creative writing. Jennifer graduated Mount Holyoke College with a B.A. in English and studio art, and a lifelong interest in merging the written word with the visual image. Jennifer earned a master’s degree in education at UMass, Amherst with a concentration in teaching secondary school English which she did for ten years, first at The Bromfield School in Massachusetts, and then at Souhegan High School in New Hampshire. She ultimately joined the Oxbow family to co-teach humanities and assume the role as Academic Dean. After a thirteen-year tenure, she was named Head of School, proudly following the lead from the founding Director and Head, Stephen Thomas. Jennifer’s interests are vast. When she is not engaged in administrative leadership matters, she can be found reading poetry, writing, hiking, swimming, sipping tea with students, and exploring hidden nooks along the California coastline with Henry David Dog. Her favorite subject to explore, however, is The Oxbow School, for she has witnessed firsthand the power it has on transforming the lives of young people.
