Eating Cultures Exhibit |
Mitsuko Brooks is in a group show Eating Cultures at SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. The exhibit opens May 1 and runs through May 30, 2014. The opening reception is May 1 from 6-9pm, at 934 Brannan Street (between 8th & 9th) in San Francisco.
The exhibit features over thirty emerging and established Asian Pacific American artists from around the country, Eating Cultures is a deliciously provocative multi-disciplinary arts exhibition of artworks inspired by Asian American food and foodways. Using food as a lens, artists share stories of global migration, adaptation, entrepreneurship, and the central importance of food in Asian communities around the world.
Mitsuko is a 2014 Artist-in-Residence at The Wassaic Project in New York, a non-profit organization that exists to provide a genuine and intimate context for art making and strengthening local community by increasing social and cultural capital through inspiration, promotion and creation of contemporary visual and performing art.

Rhombie Sandoval graduated from Art Center College of Design this Spring. She spent the Fall 2013 semester traveling the US and working on organic farms in exchange for room and board and did a lot of shooting during her travels. She was selected for the Art Center Honors Term, a program in which a student may enroll for an additional term after graduation at no tuition cost to pursue an area of study of special interest.

Caroline Woolard and Lisa Volkova hosted the opening of a new project BFAMFAPHD at Queens Museum in New York. BFAMFAPHD.com is an interactive website, an installation, and a community of thinkers that wonder: How might we mobilize artists in the United States? BFAMFAPHD.com visualizes the number of students graduating with creative degrees, generates dialog about our collective power, and elicits proposals for organizing efforts.
Caroline was interviewed for the article Reframing the Debate with BFAMFAPHD by Nate Coleman in the February issue of Art in America and was also featured in the article BFAMFAPHD: An Imaginative School of Thought by Jacqueline Gleisner in the April online magazine and blog Art21.

Molly Best has opened Thistle Meats with Lisa Modica in Petaluma, CA. They are featured in an article Sharp Edged in the Mar/Apr issue of MADE LOCAL magazine.
"Molly and Lisa, two mothers who love their community and have a passion for good quality, local food decided that they should open a fine quality - but down to earth butcher's shop. Offering locally raised, aged beef, lamb, pork, and select poultry from farms and ranchers they know and trust. They have a charcuterie program, offering unique pates, salumi, terrines, and other cured meats as well as local produce and eggs, and prepared foods."

Dean Longhofer received the Enactus Emerging Leader Award, in honor of Manly Molpus. The award recognizes a university student who has demonstrated proven leadership abilities through their participation on an Enactus team. The award consists of a $5,000 scholarship and $1000 contribution to the chosen Enactus member's team. The recipient also receives a paid internship with the GMA in Washington, DC. Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
