Winnie with Brandon, Orion, Sage |
Winnie Vaughan attends Skidmore College in upstate New York and won their 2014 Schick Art Gallery Award for her painting titled Brandon, Orion, Sage in the annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. Guest Juror Sanford Mirling, a Sculptor, Visiting Assistant Professor at Middlebury College in Vermont and Co-Founder of Collar Works Art Space in Troy, NY had this to say about her work:
"I love it when a piece of art clearly expresses its desire to tell me "something," but that "something" is complex enough that I can't understand it right away. It challenges me and I get hooked. I might only give it 17 seconds, but it stays with me after I look away, and I have to go back again."
