Max Ostrow is a senior at Bennington College in Vermont. He worked at Printed Matter in New York City last February doing fieldwork. Printed Matter, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination understanding and appreciation of artists' books. He also worked for the artist Alejandra Seeber.
I learned to drop all previous assumptions I had about people because I had never met anyone like the other students at Oxbow. For the first time, my peers and their insightful thinking inspired me. For example, during the ‘Einstein’s Dreams’ presentations, I kept looking around the room thinking, I can’t believe all of these students are talking the way I think.

I have learned so many skills and habits that have made me a better person throughout my time here. To name a few: I have learned how to be a good roommate, how to communicate, and how to trust myself. I have learned the importance of staying hydrated, getting good sleep, and having a clean work space. I have learned how to share space both in the studios and dorms. Lastly, I have learned that it’s okay to advocate for what you need and that there is no harm in asking for help or support.
