Artist Rebecca Manson will be joining our faculty for Fall 2018 to work with students on projects.

Artist Biography

Rebecca Manson is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated with a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has received a Windgate Fellowship Award and a Windgate Project Grant. She has been a resident artist and Zentrum Fur Keramik and California State University Long Beach. Through her sculpture work and in the classroom, Rebecca is interested in clay as a metaphor for community and the body.

Kathleen Henderson is a visual artist living and working in the Bay Area.

Oscillating between fascination and apprehension Henderson’s work illuminates our struggle to make sense of a senseless world with an expansive body of work that includes drawing, painting, and sculpture.

Harrell Fletcher

Artist Harrell Fletcher will be joining our faculty for Spring 2018 to work with students on projects.

Artist Biography

Harrell Fletcher received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his MFA from the California College of the Arts. He studied organic farming at UCSC and went on to work on a variety of small Community Supported Agriculture farms, which impacted his work as an artist. Fletcher has produced a wide variety of socially engaged collaborative and interdisciplinary projects since the early 1990’s.

This spring, for the first time ever, Oxbow is hosting its annual fundraiser the evening of OS36's Final Show on Saturday, May 13th, 2017. What could be better than checking out student art by day, and then venturing over to The CIA at Copia nearby for Oxbow's Benefit Concert where we will display and sell ALUMNI ART!

Dear Oxbow Friends,

It's been a couple of months since you have heard from me; lots has been going on, including welcoming OS36 in January. They are now well into the Fortune Cookie project, and are delighted some sunshine has finally arrived after all the crazy rain this winter. Students thoroughly enjoyed Visiting Artist Hung Liu and Jeff Kelley’s recent residency where she worked closely with students on large-format paintings of tiny objects, and Jeff delivered a series of college-level slide lectures on contemporary art history. As some of you will remember, Hung was our very first resident artist, working in a building on the fairgrounds since the studios were not even built!

Chris Thorson and Maria Forde's two person exhibition entitled "Strange Reprise" was at the new visual arts exhibition space state in the Mission District of San Francisco.

"Strange Reprise examines the artistic production of two artists who engage with the history of popular culture and its potential to shape personal and cultural identities. Forde will present her new series, Western Drawings, and Chris Thorson will be showing new work from her Tabula Rasa and Internal Monologue series." Read full press release

Cash Askew OS23, February 1994 – December 2016

It is with great sadness that we send news of a loss in the Oxbow alumni family: Cash Askew, OS23, passed away on December 2, 2016, a victim of the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, CA.

Cash was a creative artist and critically acclaimed musician with the Bay Area band Them Are Us Too and was pursuing a BFA at the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Artist Caroline Woolard will be joining our faculty for Fall 2016 to work with students on projects.

Artist Biography

Caroline Woolard makes art and infrastructures for the solidarity economy. Her method enjoins objects to their contexts of circulation. Woolard builds sculptures for barter only as she also creates international barter networks that continue to grow; she fabricates model Shaker housing and she also convenes organizers of community land trusts.
