As artist and journalist they are both compelled by receiving and responding to information, and to giving it shape and meaning."

Oxbow at Pinnacles National Park
11/02/15
Alex Keily, our Environmental Science faculty and Megan Broughton our Residential Life Advisor took a group of OS33 students camping to explore Pinnacles National Park.
I'm incredibly excited to rejoin my peers at Oxbow since my time in OS20. After leaving Napa, I attended the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC and graduated in 2013 with a BFA in Fine Art Photography. Throughout school I worked part-time at Morton Fine Art as a graphic designer and sales associate. Somewhat simultaneously, I was hired at Duhon Photography as a studio manager and photographer, and worked directly with the owner and lead photographer for 6 years.
Oxbow's Summer Camp Director Susan Lynn Smith is a featured artist in the exhibit New Photography inspired by the Paul Sack Collection at Berkeley Art Center (BAC). The opening reception is on Friday, October 9th from 6-8pm and runs through November 22, 2015.
"BAC is proud to be entering into this partnership with Paul Sack and to give opportunity for entirely new audiences to experience the rich photography community in the Bay Area. Jurors, Janet Delaney, Aimee Le Duc and Kira Lyons, selected six photographers: Filza Ahmad, Ingeborg Gerdes, Toby Kahn, Nick Lawrence, Maggie Preston and Susan Lynn Smith. These exhibiting artists represent a range of subject matter, approaches to practice and relationships to the built environment."
Oxbow Painting teacher Chris Thorson joins other artists including former Oxbow visiting artist Deborah Oropallo (OS1 and OS25 lecturer) and OS33 artist-in-residence Lucy Puls (OS9 lecturer) in a group exhibition NOURISH at the Napa Valley Museum. The exhibition opened September 19th and runs through November 29, 2015.
"Napa Valley Museum, in collaboration with guest curator and artist, Nancy Willis, is thrilled to present NOURISH, a multi-faceted exhibition that examines the intersection of dining, hospitality and art from Napa Valley to the global community. This will be a unique chance to think about the way we relate to food and dining through the lens of art history and visual culture." - Napa Valley Museum

Phoebe Wahl has written and illustrated Sonia's Chickens a children's book published by Tundra in August.
"There's an old-fashioned feel to this simple story and its timeless illustrations, created with watercolor, collage, and colored pencil and reminiscent of Goodnight Moon in mood, design, and palette. Inside, Sonya's house is cozy and dark. In contrast, the world outside shine white, as background to text, with vignettes or a frame or portion of the opposite image spilling across the gutter." - Kirkus Reviews
An Alum of Oxbow's Summer Camp program, Phoebe attended Rhode Island School of Design graduating in 2013. Phoebe is a working artist - read her blog and visit her website.
Former Visiting Artists Amanda Hughen and Jennifer Starkweather are featured in First Look at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. The show opens on Friday September 4th. For their piece Re:depiction, Hughen/Starkweather interviewed staff from the Asian Art Museum and asked them to describe an artwork from the museum collection from memory. Without having seen the described artworks, the artists created abstract works on paper based only on the interview recordings. There will be a walk-through of their project Re:depiction on September 10th.
